
Over the weekend, a fire ravaged part of a lumber supply business in Las Cruces, prompt response from the city's fire department helped contain the damage. The incident, which took place at L & P Building Supply located at 101 N. Archuleta Rd, drew firefighters to the scene shortly before noon on Saturday, according to the City of Las Cruces. The blaze primarily affected a warehouse and nearby lumber stacks.
Upon arrival, the crews were met with significant flames but managed to bring the warehouse fire under control in approximately 20 minutes. Operations included the removal of several stacks of lumber via forklift, necessary to reach and extinguish the deep-seated fire. Despite the challenge, the two dozen firefighters on the scene executed their plan with effort and efficiency, ensuring that the fire did not spread beyond the initially impacted areas.
No injuries have been reported as a result of the fire and as of now, the cause remains under investigation. Officials have not released any damage estimates. The swift action of the Las Cruces fire department has been credited with preventing what could have been a far more destructive event.
