After a brief hiatus that stirred the Maitland community, Kappy's Subs, a fixture since 1967, has rekindled its grills and will serve patrons again starting Sept. 23 at 9 a.m. The much-adored eatery, known for its sandwiches, had to prematurely close its doors due to an expiring lease with its landlord. According to a report by WFTV, loyal customers frequented Kappy's in droves to savor a final taste of what they feared was slipping away forever.
This communal favorite, nestled at 501 North Orlando Avenue in Maitland, received an outpouring of support that was difficult to watch from the sidelines. The community's pressure effectively helped secure an unexpected property lease extension. "We truly could not have saved Kappy’s without the love of our community," Kappy's Subs gratefully acknowledged in a social media statement detailed by WFTV.
Emotions ran high earlier in September when Kappy's announced its imminent closure. Fans of the longstanding sandwich shop took to social media to express their support and share memories. According to FOX 35 Orlando, an incredibly heartfelt Facebook post from Executive Chef Adam Milsom said, "Closing Kappy's is the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life and I have been brought to tears on several occasions in the past few days."
