Early Wednesday morning, a man found himself the target of a brutal attack in Chicago's West Garfield Park neighborhood. According to the Chicago Tribune, around 3:30 a.m., the victim was walking on the 300 block of South Homan Avenue when he was approached by a trio of assailants who produced a sharp object and proceeded to stab him. The man incurred severe lacerations to his chest and shoulder, which resulted in him being taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he is reportedly in critical condition.
The perpetrators, described only as a group of three, were last seen fleeing the scene on foot heading north, the Tribune reports. As of yet, no one has been taken into custody in connection with this incident, leaving the local community to grapple with the ongoing threat of violence on their streets. Area Four detectives are actively investigating to find and bring the suspects to justice.
Adding to the details of the incident, FOX 32 Chicago noted that there appears to be some confusion regarding the direction in which the suspects fled. According to their report, witnesses saw the suspects run southbound away from the crime scene. This detail not only highlights the chaotic aftermath of the crime but also serves to illustrate the uncertainty that often shrouds such violent outbreaks in the immediate wake.
Regardless of the direction of their escape, the assailants remain at large, and police are urging anyone with information to step forward.
