A Miami Beach couple is facing child neglect charges after their four children were left unattended in an apartment and one, a 2-year-old girl, was found wandering alone. Daryl Lentz and Ciera Hurd, who had come from Baltimore to celebrate a birthday, left the children to visit local nightclubs, including Club Madonna, according to police statements. The incident occurred last Tuesday and resulted in their arrest after the toddler was discovered outside their Ocean Drive lodging.
According to CBS Miami, the parents maintain that it was not customary for them to leave their children unsupervised. "We are not bad parents," claimed Ciera Hurd. "We made a bad mistake." Her husband, Lentz, expressed his regret and emphasized the importance of staying close to one's children. Their four children are currently in the care of the Department of Children & Families.
Amid their legal issues, a photo shared by Miami Beach police showed an officer comforting a young child. This image contrasts with the situation that began when a good Samaritan found the child crying for her mother around midnight. He called the authorities, prompting a door-to-door search by police until they found an open third-floor apartment with sleeping children, as reported by NBC Miami.
This was not Hurd's first child neglect incident; she had a previous conviction in 2018 when one of her children left the home unclothed. Now, the parents face new repercussions, with a custody hearing scheduled for October 1 in Miami-Dade County. Circuit Court Judge Mindy Glazer cautioned them about the serious risks of leaving children alone, as reported by NBC Miami.
