Brickell, known for its financial district and upscale high-rises, has recently faced a series of apartment burglaries. Eric Jerod Robinson, a 24-year-old Miami resident, has been arrested in connection with these incidents at Axis on Brickell, 79 SW 12th Street, which occurred between Monday and Wednesday.
Robinson faces multiple felony charges, including 11 counts of burglary of an occupied dwelling and four counts of grand theft, according to WSVN. Surveillance footage showed him checking door handles to find unlocked apartments, from which he allegedly stole cash, purses, jewelry, credit cards, and electronics, leaving residents feeling unsettled and violated.
Police were assisted in capturing Robinson when he unknowingly shared his Instagram account with them, which was crucial in identifying him, according to Local 10. Detectives reviewed footage and recognized Robinson, who had stolen property and, in one instance, asked a resident to see their $1,500 gold chain and then fled with it.
The burglaries, which Miami police said occurred from Monday to Wednesday, led to Robinson's arrest the next day. Police tracked him to Northwest 29th Avenue and apprehended him. Robinson, who had even befriended front desk security and made social media connections, is now held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center awaiting bond determination.
