Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) announced the safe recovery of 9-year-old Elayne Sidamda, a child who had been reported missing the previous day. "Elayne Sidamda has been located safely," IMPD issued a brief confirmation in their announcement.
Elayne's disappearance had triggered a wide call for public assistance after she went missing from an apartment complex near Lynhurst Drive and Vermont Street. The IMPD, in their call for aid, had distributed descriptions of the young girl, who stands at 4’9" and weighs 70 pounds, characterized by her black hair and brown eyes. She had last been seen wearing a green shirt, black shorts, and flip flops when she vanished around the 5500 block of Blue Hill Circle on Thursday evening, as reported by CBS4 Indy.
Authorities did not provide details on where or how Elayne was found. The IMPD's Missing Persons Unit and Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana became focal points for the reception of tips and information regarding Elayne's whereabouts, as cited by WISH-TV.
Her recovery was made public earlier today, approximately 12 hours after her initial disappearance, according to the narrative from The Indianapolis Star.
