Two individuals sustained injuries in a hit-and-run incident that disrupted the usual flow of traffic along Chicago's DuSable Lake Shore Drive Monday morning. According to a CBS News report, a motorcycle carrying the pair was struck by a pickup truck in the 100 block of South Lake Shore Drive around the vicinity of Monroe Street. The motorcycle and the pickup truck were both heading north when the collision occurred shortly before 10 a.m.
Upon changing lanes, the truck reportedly made contact with and subsequently injured both riders. The 50-year-old male motorcyclist came out with minor injuries and was to quickly seek treatment at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he is listed in good condition. His passenger, a 46-year-old woman, was not so fortunate and is currently grappling with a serious head injury in the same hospital. As the investigation continues to unfold, additional citations beyond driving without a license and fleeing an accident scene could potentially be levitated against the 63-year-old pickup truck driver.
Shortly after the hit-and-run, authorities were able to locate the driver of the pickup truck. Even though his escape attempt proved futile, it adds to the gravity of the incident and raises concerns about road safety and accountability. FOX 32 Chicago confirms that after being apprehended, the driver faced immediate citations for his unlicensed driving status and his decision to leave the crash site.
No further injuries from the incident have been reported.
