A 74-year-old Murfreesboro man lost his life in a tragic drowning incident while competing in a fishing tournament on Normandy Lake, this past Saturday. As per the WSMV, William Henry was declared dead after he failed to return for the tournament's weigh-in; event participants subsequently discovered him unresponsive near his vessel in the lake waters.
Responding to an emergency call around 4:20 p.m., the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) and local anglers initiated a search for Henry, leading to the heartbreaking find, despite Henry's use of a life jacket at the time officials said a preliminary investigation suggests there's more to uncover regarding the circumstances of Henry's death. According to WKRN, Coffee County first responders pronounced Henry dead at the scene, marking a somber tally of nineteen boating-related fatalities on Tennessee waters in 2024.
The TWRA has not only acknowledged the incident but also underscored its broader implications—this marks a rising count of such fatal accidents on Tennessee's aquatic expenses this year, as highlighted by FOX 17. The investigation into Henry's drowning continues, aiming to unravel the full narrative behind what appears to be a tranquil day turning into a misfortune at sea, or in this case, at the lake.
