Nashville Teen's Kidnapping Scare Deemed a Misunderstanding by Local PoliceSource: Google Street View

Concerns were raised in the community following reports of an alleged attempted kidnapping involving a 15-year-old girl, which have since been clarified as a misunderstanding by local authorities. According to a Metropolitan Nashville Police Department media release, Youth Services detectives responded to the initial incident that occurred on Thursday, and ongoing investigations led to a breakthrough this morning.

While on patrol, officers saw a minivan matching a description at Penny Brink Drive and Bart Drive. A male passenger got out of the vehicle just like in a previous report. This led the police to stop the minivan for questioning. The driver, a woman, and her two male passengers said they were just doing their regular drop-off, but the situation turned out to be unsettling. The teenage girl, usually not alone at the bus stop in the dark, was nervous when the man from the minivan approached her.

After interviewing the van's occupants, it became clear that the scare was due to a series of coincidences. The male passenger was just following his routine, getting out of the van to pick up his truck along Penny Brink Drive, where the girl was waiting for her bus. It turned out to be a case of mistaken identity. The girl, nervous and alone, panicked and ran away when the passenger got out, causing confusion for the driver, who didn’t understand why she was so alarmed.
