Tragedy struck San Diego's East Village neighborhood where an 18-year-old Black male Navy sailor named Albert Soto from Queens, New York, was fatally shot after an altercation early last week. According to the City of San Diego, the San Diego Police Department received calls about gunshots near 9th Street and F Street at approximately 12:49 a.m. on August 31. Officers on the scene attempted CPR before the victim was rushed to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The subsequent investigation, as reported by Hoodline, reveals that Soto may have been in a prior dispute inside a local nightclub, and detectives are delving into the connection between this dispute and the fatal shooting. In contrast, initial witness reports describe four Black male suspects in dark clothing who were seen fleeing the scene. The San Diego Police Department is presently collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses. They're canvassing for surveillance footage in hopes of shedding light on the events leading up to this violent loss of life.
While the investigation unfolds, San Diego law enforcement is urging the public to come forward with any pertinent information that might assist in solving the case. The authorities have encouraged anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or, for those who wish to remain anonymous, to contact Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
