Following a year-long investigation into a fatal stabbing that occurred in 2023, the Pleasanton Police Department has announced the arrest of 27-year-old Kennedy Stith. The incident, which took the life of 32-year-old Edevion White, took place on May 1, 2023, on the 5700 block of Owens Drive in Pleasanton. Initially believed to be a robbery gone wrong, investigators have since unraveled a different story, leading to the arrest of Stith at her Oakland residence yesterday.
Initial reports that emerged after the killing suggested the involvement of two male suspects wearing ski masks. With time and persistence, Pleasanton detectives determined this claim, wearing their detective hats, to be a misdirected narrative piece. Stith was booked at Santa Rita Jail on charges of homicide under Penal Code Section 187, according to the Pleasanton Police Department.
The breakthrough in the case came after detectives pieced together evidence that White and Stith knew each other, countering the initial robbery narrative. In their public statement, the Pleasanton Police Department extended "heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Edevion White," and assured the community of their ongoing commitment to safety. The department has credited the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, California Department of Justice, and California Highway Patrol’s Special Operations Unit for their collaborative effort in this extensive investigation.
