On the anniversary of a tragic and long-unsolved crime, Ogden Police are renewing their call for information regarding the homicide of Robert Soto, slain 11 years ago to the day. The case, which has puzzled investigators and haunted the community, occurred on the early morning of August 31, 2013, when police were dispatched to the sound of gunfire in an Ogden neighborhood.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered 26-year-old Soto lifeless on the sidewalk, a victim of gun violence. As ABC4 reports, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The unfortunate anniversary has prompted law enforcement to ask the public for any information that could lead to a breakthrough in the cold case, information that could illuminate the darkness of that night, information that could finally offer closure to a grieving family.
According to KUTV, the night was pierced not just by gunshots, but also by the sounds of car doors slamming and vehicles hastily departing the scene. Soto had reportedly stepped away from a gathering of friends in a backyard, only to be shot as he reached the sidewalk out front, a detail that sharpens the image of that fatal transition from companionship to solitude, from life to death.
The continued search for answers is indicative of a community's persistent quest for justice, and remembrance of the souls we've lost. "Police also said Soto had left a group of friends in the backyard of a home and walked out front. The shooting occurred as he was in the front of the house," as per KSLTV. The Ogden Police Department urges anyone with even the slightest piece of information, no matter how inconsequential it may seem, to come forward to help bring clarity to a case that has lingered in the shadows for over a decade.
