Last night, the Chicago neighborhood of Lawndale was rocked by gun violence when two men were shot in the 1500 block of South Kenneth Avenue. The Chicago Police Department reported that the incident occurred shortly before 11:15 p.m., leaving one man dead and another injured. The Chicago Tribune identified the deceased as 39-year-old Carlos A. Grays of the 1300 block of South Christiana.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting are still under investigation, but it is known that an unknown assailant approached on foot and began to open fire on the two men. According to the Tribune, the younger man suffered multiple wounds, including one to the back of his head, and was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital. The other victim, a 42-year-old man, was also taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in fair condition with wounds to the stomach, shoulder, and buttocks. The perpetrator is reported to have fled in a dark-colored sedan.
As of the latest update, there have not been any arrests made in connection with the shooting. The area detectives are actively working to piece together what led up to the tragedy and who may be responsible. CBS News Chicago noted that the Chicago police are seeking information and have not yet released any details on potential suspects.
