A shooting incident on the southwest side of Indianapolis resulted in serious injuries for one individual on Saturday night. According to the WISH-TV report, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers were dispatched around 8:22 p.m. to the 6400 block of Avacado Drive, a residential area. Upon arrival, they discovered a gunshot victim.
The injured person, found entering the night, was rushed to a nearby hospital and reported to be in serious condition. As detailed by WTHR, the specifics of the incident, including motive and suspect, have not been released by investigators at this time.
FOX59 further reported the critical condition of the male victim, stating that the shooting took place near South Belmont Avenue and Interstate 69. The original emergency call was made close to 9:22 p.m., after which police arrived to find the individual suffering from injuries congruent with those sustained from gunfire.
During a media briefing, IMPD Night Watch Captain Don Weilhammer, commented on the challenges faced by law enforcement in the investigation: "If people don’t tell us what happened, it makes it extremely hard to solve the crime," FOX59 quotes, while also noting the victim's lack of cooperation with police, stating he had claimed to be targeted while standing outside a home before being shot by a group.
Tips from the public are encouraged by IMPD, with numbers provided for contact and the possibility of anonymity through Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana. As the situation stands, law enforcement continues to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information that may aid in solving the case.
