Yesterday's Demobilization Ceremony at the Oregon State Library marked a significant moment for the nine soldiers of Alpha Minus, Second Battalion, 641st Aviation Regiment as Governor Tina Kotek officiated their return from the Horn of Africa. Stationed overseas since July 14, 2023, these troops played a crucial role in supporting US Africa Command and Combined Joint Task Force operations under the moniker of Operation Enduring Freedom.
"More than a year ago, I wished you a safe deployment to the Horn of Africa. It was my first Mobilization Ceremony serving as your Commander-in Chief,” Kotek stated. “I was honored then, and I am honored now to welcome you back, safe and sound. Thank you for the time you sacrificed in service to our country. Thank you for your courage, commitment and resolve," according to a statement obtained by the press release.
The ceremony marked the end of their deployment and highlighted the personal sacrifices of the soldiers and their families. The Horn of Africa is important for U.S. military strategies, with troops from Oregon and other states playing key roles in the Combined Joint Task Force. Their mission was to promote security, prevent conflict, and protect U.S. and coalition interests, according to the same press release.
