For Americans residing across oceans, deserts, and foreign urban sprawls, casting a vote in the homeland's democratic process is a right that continues to be championed by the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA). This act ensures that the considerable swath of U.S. citizens on military duty, along with their eligible dependents and civilian compatriots abroad, are not disenfranchised due to geography when elections come around.
This year, those registered under UOCAVA will receive their absentee ballots for the 2024 November General Election starting September 21, as ballots are mailed out 45 days in advance to accommodate international mailing and processing times, as detailed by Pinal County. Designed to reach the hands of service members and overseas citizens, these ballots are the embodiment of the promise that distance should not diminish the civic voice.
To ensure no UOCAVA voter is left untapped, the Pinal County office is calling upon the community to spread the word. They are making it known that requesting a ballot is as simple as picking up the phone or crafting an email. In a public statement, the county officials stated that interested voters may "request a ballot by contacting our office at 520-509-3555 or emailing us at [email protected]."
