Commuters navigating through Chicago may need to gear up for another round of disruptions on North DuSable Lake Shore Drive this week. Due to resurfacing efforts, temporary closures will impact southbound traffic between LaSalle Drive and Hollywood Avenue. According to information obtained from the Chicago Tribune, closures began at 3 p.m. Sunday and are set to continue in phases throughout the week, primarily during overnight hours to minimize traffic disturbances.
Specifically, the southbound lanes between Irving Park Road and Belmont Avenue were the first to shut down, though they were scheduled to reopen at 6 a.m. Monday, September 16. As per the Chicago Tribune, traffic is expected to reduce to a single lane starting at 7 p.m. this evening, between Irving Park and Fullerton Avenue, with all lanes closing at 9 p.m. and reopening by early morning the next day. Motorists are advised to plan and, if possible, avoid the area during these times.
The pattern of closures and one-lane restrictions will persist until Friday morning, September 20. Each evening stretches of the southbound drive from Belmont to LaSalle Drive will be systematically closed and subsequently reopened by 6 a.m. the following day. ABC 7 Chicago reports that during these closures, all entrance and exit ramps within the affected segments will also remain closed, and detours will direct traffic onto alternative routes such as Inner Lake Shore Drive.
