The City of Portland continues its fight against sex trafficking, with Mayor Ted Wheeler and the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) intensifying their efforts to combat this crime. On a mission since June 2024, a series of Human Trafficking Missions have been carried out, resulting in a significant number of arrests and citations regarding prostitution and sex trafficking.

As reported by the City of Portland, The Portland Police Bureau's Human Trafficking Unit is implementing a comprehensive strategy in collaboration with various law enforcement agencies to tackle issues such as illicit massage parlors and street prostitution. These operations often extend across multiple jurisdictions, with victims frequently trafficked from regions outside of Portland. This criminal activity is often linked to other illegal practices, including drug use and weapons, which can impact neighborhood stability.

"We are deeply committed to addressing the serious issue of sex trafficking and are working to expand our efforts to combat this devastating exploitation and the damage it causes to our community," Mayor Ted Wheeler stated in the news release. The PPB's approach incorporates best practices and a trauma-informed methodology, emphasizing the importance of holding perpetrators accountable while prioritizing the mental well-being of victims and assisting them in rebuilding their live
