A Princeton High School student was arrested after a weapon was discovered inside their backpack on campus, according to a report shared by FOX19 News. Superintendent Elgin Card stated that the student was suspected of being under the influence and in possession of a vape, which led to an investigation by the school's security team in collaboration with a resource officer.
In the process of the investigation, searching was deemed necessary. "Upon the search of the student, a weapon was found in the student’s backpack,” said Superintendent Card via FOX19 News, indicating a clear breach of the student code of conduct. The Sharonville Police Department, present on campus for other reasons, assisted with the situation.
The involved student, a 16-year-old, was found with an unloaded small-caliber handgun following the search of his belongings. According to details from Local12 News, the student now faces charges of illegal conveyance of a firearm and carrying concealed weapons.
Moments after the discovery, Princeton High School was temporarily subjected to a "transport, hold-in-place lockdown" as the teen was taken from the premises. Praising the quick actions and vigilance of the involved parties, the school said in a statement reported by WLWT, "We commend the vigilance and quick action of our school administration, security team, and community partners. Their continued support and cooperation are crucial in maintaining a safe and secure learning environment."
The matter raises ongoing concerns regarding school safety and the procedures to protect students and staff from potential harm. This incident will likely result in student discussions and policy reviews aimed at strengthening campus security measures.
