Big news for St. Louis as Procter & Gamble (P&G) nails down a $180 million expansion on its North City campus, making a strong economic statement. The St. Louis Development Corporation (SLDC) and St. Louis Economic Development Partnership (STL Partnership) stood alongside Mayor Tishaura O. Jones and P&G execs earlier this month to raise a glass to the hefty investment at 169 E. Grand Ave. This site, already bustling with the production of household names like Cascade and Febreze, is set to see a substantial bump in job creation.
St. Louis was the city of choice for P&G after an intense search to find the best location to enlarge its operations. With the goal to fully ensure the company's growth trajectory in the city, regional stakeholders, including the Missouri Department of Economic Development and the Port Authority via STL Partnership, came through with an incentive package. Economic perks such as sales tax exemptions on construction materials and property tax abatements for new equipment were pivotal. According to a recent announcement on the City of St. Louis website, the expansion isn't just about increasing the production line—it's about adding 100 jobs with an impressive average paycheck of $65,000 a year, while keeping 530 current positions anchored.
Mayor Jones spotlighted the importance of partnership, echoing the city's intent to forge futures together with businesses. "We need strong partnerships with businesses who see the same prosperous future for St. Louis that we do," Mayor Jones said. Meanwhile, Neal Richardson, the head honcho at SLDC, focused on the regional collaboration that secured the deal. "Helping to ensure P&G continues to grow in St. Louis is a huge win for our city and region," Richardson stated on the City of St. Louis website, pinpointing the coordinated efforts to bring about an incentive package and employment openings that will benefit local residents.
A nod to the impending centenary celebrations, P&G's Plant Manager, Daniel Palop Rabat, spoke on the company's pride in its St. Louis roots. "This expansion marks a significant milestone as we approach our 100th anniversary in 2027. With state-of-the-art automation and increased production capacity, we are committed to innovation, sustainability, and excellence," Rabat explained on the City of St. Louis website. And to chime in, Rodney Crim of STL Partnership reiterated their role in making sure P&G's new chapter in St. Louis turns out to be a remarkable one.
