On August 25, a routine patrol at the Metro Mall in Colma took a dramatic turn when police apprehended a repeat theft suspect. Colma Police Officers, while conducting a check of the shopping center, spotted Tony Venegas, a 56-year-old Daly City resident with a history of theft and an open felony warrant for multiple burglary incidents. Upon being approached, Venegas attempted to flee through the parking lot, leading officers on a brief chase before his arrest, as reported by the Colma Police Department.
Venegas had allegedly targeted the same business he had stolen multiple times in the past. Between July 30th and August 25th, his thefts accumulated an estimated loss of $2,071.56. His latest crime was part of a spree that involved seven thefts, all at the same Metro Mall location.
In addition to burglary charges, officers found drug paraphernalia on Venegas during his arrest. He now faces several charges, including resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, and the outstanding felony warrant. Venegas was booked into San Mateo County Jail, where he remains in custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
