San Antonio residents have a new way to showcase their local pride while accessing a world of knowledge and entertainment. The San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) is rolling out fresh, limited-edition library card designs to celebrate National Library Card Sign-Up Month. Available since September 3, these vibrant cards feature iconic symbols of the city, including lotería, the San Antonio skyline, cowboy boots with bluebonnets, and SAPL's own Smarty, as reported by the City of San Antonio's official news release.
For anyone considering dipping into the extensive resources on offer, Kathy Donellan, Interim Library Director, told the City's official website, "A San Antonio Public Library card is your key to the vast resources and opportunities offered by the library." She went on to encourage every San Antonio resident to snag one of the unique cards, which are only available while supplies last. With a simple visit to any SAPL location armed with a photo ID and proof of residency, or by opting to quickly sign up online, locals can immediately begin to explore the library's comprehensive digital realm.
From more than 2 million items ready for checkout to engaging community programs and daily activities, the SAPL serves as a cultural and educational hub across its 29 locations. Additionally, San Antonio's workforce can benefit from seven Learn at SAPL adult education centers sprinkled throughout the city, addressing needs from job searches to computer literacy. Last year, SAPL added Kanopy to its free digital services, providing access to a robust library of films, shows, and kids' content. This year, the introduction of Craftsy brings a wealth of instructional videos right into the homes of cardholders, covering everything from cooking to creative arts.
Those who already possess a classic SAPL library card need not feel left out; they can trade their existing card for a new design simply by presenting a photo ID at any library branch. Though switching to a new card will also require the patron to change their library card number, the minute inconvenience pales in comparison to the fresh aesthetic and sense of inclusion one feels by carrying a card that truly reflects their city's character. For further details about these offerings, enthusiasts and future patrons alike are directed to the SAPL website.
