San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins has initiated a groundbreaking partnership with the incarcerated individuals at San Quentin Rehabilitation Center to build innovative crime prevention strategies. To advance criminal justice reform, the Access to Hope Healing, Reform, and Reentry Partnership program aims to foster meaningful dialogue between prosecutors and incarcerated men to create preventative measures against future criminal activities, as reported by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office.
This collaborative effort enables the District Attorney's Office staff to immerse themselves in the inmates' experiences and understand which rehabilitation programs are effective and impactful. This approach is considered to embody true restorative justice, as it lets these men contribute to the healing of communities they once harmed and mitigates the risk of further criminal cycles. "I am proud to partner with San Quentin Rehabilitation Center to create meaningful engagement opportunities for my staff and the incarcerated population to develop crime prevention and intervention strategies,” DA Jenkins announced, as per the San Francisco District Attorney's Office.
Engagement with the prisoners' civic group will be recurring monthly, and quarterly symposia will directly inform the DA's policies and initiatives toward crime prevention and criminal justice reform. Already, DA Jenkins has been involved in three such symposia and multiple other meetings, demonstrating her hands-on approach to understanding and reforming the criminal justice system.
