San José saw its 23rd homicide of the year after a shooting occurred in the early hours of August 26 on the 1700 block of Story Road. The police found an adult male victim with gunshot wounds in a parking lot, the San José Police Department reported.
The victim was transported to a hospital but sadly pronounced dead upon arrival. The late-night incident is now being investigated as a homicide by the local authorities, and the identity of the deceased remains undisclosed pending confirmation and notification of kin by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office, together with the ongoing investigation into the motive and context of the event, as described in a report by Hoodline.
The breakthrough in the case came when detectives pinpointed Sergio Loya, aged 46 and a resident of Stockton, as the suspect. A warrant was issued leading to his arrest last Friday through collaborative efforts with the SJPD's Covert Response Unit. Loya is currently booked at the Santa Clara County Main Jail under murder charges.
