Students and staff at Somerset Academy in Deerfield Beach were promptly evacuated this morning following the report of a potential bomb threat, sending a ripple of concern through the community. The incident began to unfold at 11:34 a.m. at the school, located at 959 SE Sixth Ave., as detailed by the Local 10 News. As helicopters from 7Skyforce observed, displaced by the threat, students gathered patiently in a nearby parking lot, waiting for the situation to be resolved.
WSVN reported that members of the Broward Sheriff’s Office, along with the BSO Threat Management Unit detectives, descended upon the scene to address the pressing situation and ensure safety. In the face of the midday sun, deputies provided water to students who had been stopping the possibility of heat exhaustion due to their evacuation.
Sky 10 flew over the school shortly before 12:30 p.m., capturing a visual narrative of a community thrust into anxiety's arms, albeit temporarily. The "Broward Sheriff Office deputies and detectives with BSO Threat Management Unit have responded and are actively investigating the incident," said a spokesperson for the BSO, in an email correspondence with Local 10 News.
As the situation evolved, faculty and staff worked in concert with law enforcement, continuing to care for the evacuated students, exhibiting attentiveness to their needs. A collective sigh of relief as the situation, void of further developments, remained peaceful. Details are sparse as the BSO continues its investigation, no further information about the nature of the threat or potential suspects was immediately made available.
