Last Saturday, Colma Police detained a man accused of theft at a business near the Serra Center Shopping Center. The suspect reportedly took advantage of a business's emergency fire exit to make his getaway with stolen goods.
According to a Facebook post by the Colma Police Department, it was at 11:11 am when officers cruising down Serramonte Boulevard were alerted to the incident. The loss prevention officers from the victimized business described the suspect and the direction in which he fled. A quick canvassing of the area brought police face-to-face with a man who seemed to fit the bill.
This suspect, later identified as 36-year-old Steven Morgan, was found in the 700 block of Serramonte Boulevard. Matching the description of the theft suspect, Morgan was detained by the police. A confrontation ensued, during which the business’ loss prevention officer verified Morgan's identity as the individual involved in the theft. Morgan, who has been identified as unhoused, was apprehended by the authorities and found to have stolen approximately $734.90 worth of merchandise.
Morgan was arrested on charges of petty theft and was issued a citation. He's expected to shoulder the responsibility for his actions before the court as he was released on a promise to appear later.
