Yesterday afternoon, a distressing disturbance unfolded at Town Center at Boca Raton, culminating in the evacuation of the mall, as police responded to what turned out to be a hoax threat. Cody "Clix" Conrod, a widely followed Fortnite streamer, found himself at the center of this malicious act of "swatting," when an anonymous caller falsely claimed a shooting was in progress at the mall, specifically near Conrod's vehicle, Local10 reported.
Conrod addressed his live audience on Twitch amidst the chaos, revealing, “We can’t get out of the mall because one of you guys swatted the mall and said there’s a shooting going on in here next to my (expletive) car," The Palm Beach Post shared a segment. Panic and lockdown ensued shortly after this false alarm, with all stores within the facility moving swiftly to secure their premises and the individuals within.
Following an investigation into the incident, police spokeswoman Jessica Desir informed The Palm Beach Post that the threat had been identified as a "swatting call," confirming that nothing suspicious had been found and the vehicle pointed out had been cleared. Despite the confirmation that the alarm was false, the mall remained closed well into the evening, reopening not for business but solely to allow shoppers to retrieve their vehicles.
Caught in the unsettling aftermath, Conrod took to social media to express his visible frustration and disgust. He mentioned on his account, encountering his fans in the north parking lot earlier in the day, "Wow man, what a (expletive) disgusting world we live in," he wrote, per a statement obtained by The Palm Beach Post.
