Early Wednesday morning, a 16-year-old boy fell victim to gun violence on the Near West Side of Chicago. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the shooting occurred around 2:45 a.m. as the teenager was walking along the 1900 block of West Ogden Avenue. An unidentified assailant, for reasons yet unknown, began to inexplicably open fire, striking the young boy in the torso.
Hurriedly, the victim was dropped off at Stroger Hospital, to rapidly secure the urgent care needed to preserve his life. FOX 32 Chicago reports that upon arrival, the boy was listed in fair condition, a glimmer of hope amidst the chaos that had pierced the silence of the city's resting hours.

Area Three detectives have taken up the mantle of the investigation, seeking to piece together the series of events that led to this violent encounter.
