Earlier today, a scene unfolded on the westbound shoulder of Interstate 195 in Miami Beach where a woman with multiple gunshot wounds was discovered. The Miami Beach Police Department responded to a call for help and found the victim in a grave state, necessitating the closure of several lanes to accommodate the investigation and the patient's immediate medical needs. "She appeared to have been shot multiple times" and was transported in critical condition to Jackson Memorial Hospital Ryder Trauma Center, according to officials relayed by NBC Miami.
While details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting remain unclear, traffic in the vicinity of the incident was impacted significantly. The Miami Beach Police diverted flow to a single lane from Alton Road to Biscayne Boulevard on the Julia Tuttle Causeway. Commuters leaving Miami Beach were advised to opt for Interstate 395, known as the MacArthur Causeway, as an alternate route.
Authorities have not yet determined where the shooting took place, and are calling on the public for any leads. "It’s still unclear where the shooting actually occurred," said MBPD spokesman Christopher Bess, as provided by Local 10. The police department, along with Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers, encourages anyone with information to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
The identity of the woman has not been released, and the police are withholding further details at this time. The community has been alerted to the presence of the investigative unit on I-195, and traffic updates continue to be provided to assist motorists navigating through the area. For those with information about the incident, Miami Beach Police Department can be contacted directly, or tips can be submitted anonymously through Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
