A high-speed chase on Interstate 15 concluded tragically early Sunday morning when a woman was killed, and her young child critically injured in a rollover crash near Layton. According to KSL, the Utah Highway Patrol identified that the Dodge Caravan was previously spotted traveling more than 100 mph in Salt Lake County before a trooper attempted to stop the vehicle in Davis County around 7:30 a.m.
The definitive end, to the pursuit, came when the driver attempted to exit I-15 at Antelope Drive. The high speed of the van led to a rollover, ejecting both the woman and her 3-year-old son from the vehicle, as FOX13 reports. Per UHP Capt. Chris Simmons' statement to KSL, the trooper ended the chase once the vehicle took the off-ramp, where the crash subsequently occurred.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident while the child was critically injured and airlifted to Primary Children's Hospital, affirmed KSL. Life-saving aid was provided by troopers for the young child until medical personnel arrived, as detailed by KUTV.
