Zoo Miami's resident cheetah, Winston, known affectionately as the zoo's ambassador, is on a steady path to recovery after vets removed the cast from his rear left leg, which had been healing from a compound fracture since July. The big cat suffered the injury in an undisclosed incident, thrusting him into a months-long journey of recuperation and rehabilitation, as WSVN reported on Friday.
Following a delicate procedure where veterinarians had to insert plates to mend the fractured limb, Winston was finally able to shake off his constraints this week; and although he's still getting used to being without the support, favoring the once-injured leg he's working to rebuild the muscles which will eventually, hopefully, return him to his glory as one of nature's most astonishing sprinters, this according to zoo officials who couldn't contain their excitement about Winston's progress, as shared on Zoo Miami's official page on X.
