The collision involved three vehicles and several witnesses described the chaos, with one recounting, “All I hear is boom, boom, boom, boom,” said Layma Faith Denavar, she along with others saw the fire and people pushing kids back into the school, they had heard the accident happen and saw an explosion of flames – this according to an interview given to WSVN. Cellphone footage captured by onlookers depicted the intense flames that consumed at least one of the cars involved in the crash.

Emergency services were quick to respond, with Miami Fire Rescue and Miami Police arriving to find the vehicles ablaze. By extent of this disastrous event, a woman was ejected from one vehicle, sustaining significant burns. She was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition, as captured by NBC Miami cameras. The roadways around Northwest 60th Street and 61st Street and Second Avenue were closed well into the night as the investigation and cleanup continued.

Miami Police Department Captain Freddy Cruz relayed to reporters that one of the vehicles seems to have lost control and compounded the situation by striking a couple of fixed objects before hitting the other vehicles and catching fire, he revealed this in a statement obtained by WSVN. None of the crash victims were affiliated with the school and, fortunately, the school itself was unscathed in the wreck. Officials are still investigating the causal factors leading up to the calamitous accident.
