Border Patrol agents in the Laredo Sector discovered 16 migrants locked in a trailer during a suspected human smuggling attempt late Saturday evening. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the agents were alerted to suspicious activity and noticed a parked tractor-trailer from a local business on North Lamar Boulevard, near Interamerica.
A call received around 9:50 p.m. on Tuesday prompted agents to inspect the trailer, where they found a group of undocumented migrants trapped inside. Border Patrol rescued them and transported them to Laredo North Station for processing. The individuals who were from Mexico were in the U.S. without documentation.
While the rescue averted a potentially deadly situation, U.S. Customs and Border Protection issued a strong warning against unlawful entries, emphasizing the significant dangers of illegally crossing the southern U.S. border. The risks involve serious legal consequences and perilous threats to life. After the intervention, the migrants were processed based on their individual immigration status.
