The Arizona Board of Osteopathic Examiners in Medicine and Surgery has come under scrutiny after a recent regulatory review unearthed a series of deficiencies in its operations.
As reported by the Arizona Auditor General, while the board was generally prompt in issuing initial and renewal licenses, there were notable failings in other areas that could potentially affect patient safety. Specifically, the board was cited for not resolving complaints promptly and for not consistently suspending licenses in cases where violations posed imminent public health risks.
An area of concern identified in the audit was the verification process for some applicants, where it was found that not all met initial license and permit requirements. This gap in the vetting process could seriously undermine patient trust and safety in the medical community, as per the Arizona Auditor General.
