Arlington County's public safety agencies are organizing a donation drive to help those affected by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina. The Arlington County Police Department, Fire Department, Sheriff’s Office, and Emergency Management are reaching out to the community for support to aid the hardest-hit areas.
People can donate on Wednesday and Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Arlington Assembly of God, located at 4501 N. Pershing Drive. Donations will help provide essential items needed by hurricane survivors.
Outlined by the authorities, necessary items include all-purpose cleaners, dish soap, heavy-duty trash bags, laundry detergent, paper towels, and toilet paper. The list further encompasses hygiene products like bandages, deodorant, and diapers of all sizes, including adult ones. Practical needs such as batteries, flashlights, hand warmers, and work gloves were also highlighted among the essentials.
The donation drive, however, will not be accepting monetary contributions. Instead, interested parties are directed toward monetary aid channels including the Asheville Police Foundation, the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund, and the United Way of Southwest Virginia, where donations can be made directly as noted in Arlington's news release.
After collection, donations will be sent to North Carolina with help from Paul Davis Restoration. They will be delivered to local organizations that support those affected by Hurricane Helene.
