The president of a luxury condominium association in Aventura has been taken into custody, accused of pilfering a sum surpassing $1.5 million. Gregori Arzoumanov, who presides over the Turnberry On the Green Condominiums, was arrested on charges including racketeering, organized fraud, money laundering, grand theft, and credit card fraud, as per the officials. Arrested today, the events surrounding Arzoumanov's capture were detailed in an NBC Miami report.
Miami-Dade jail records showed the 62-year-old Arzoumanov was booked this morning. Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle suggested that trouble was brewing beneath the surface, as she commented in a news conference following the arrest that Arzoumanov had embezzled funds dating back to February 2017. The revelation of the theft was first made public during the same news conference.
Arzoumanov has been a part of the Turnberry community since 2004 and became the board's leader in 2008, as the association's website states. In an interview, a Turnberry resident, named Thais Penezri, expressed relief upon learning of Arzoumanov's arrest to 7News, stating, "I don’t have a lot of details but what I can tell you its that we were living a daily nightmare, being persecuted daily by the board that was absolutely corrupt."
Arzoumanov's fall from grace was documented in a cellphone video that captured him being escorted away in cuffs by Aventura Police, ushered in a scene far removed from the Turnberry's lush greenery and opulence. Additional details about the case are anticipated to be unveiled by local officials, including Aventura Police Chief Michael Bentolila and Aventura Mayor Howard S. Weinberg, who are expected to hold a press conference that was scheduled for this afternoon. Officials have promised to shed more light on the case in the press conference, which was covered by 7News.
