
A grim discovery was made over the weekend in Fort Lauderdale, where a body was found floating in the New River, authorities have confirmed. As reported by Local 10 News, the body was spotted near Southeast Fourth Street just before 5 p.m.
Authorities were alerted to the presence of the body after a 911 call that came in around 4:40 p.m., according to a statement obtained by NBC Miami. Floating near 800 Southeast 4th Avenue, the local fire rescue officials and police officers responded, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, who they recovered from the water was seen to be floating.
Fort Lauderdale Police Department is heading the investigation into the incident. No apparent signs of foul play were observed at the time of discovery, which officials noted. However, the circumstances surrounding the death, including the identity of the victim, have not been disclosed pending notification of the next of kin and further inquiry.
