On Thursday, October 10, 2024, officers from the Drug Control Units of District E-13 (Jamaica Plain), E-18 (Hyde Park), and B-3 (Mattapan) arrested two individuals on charges of drug trafficking. According to a report from the Boston Police Department, Walky LaChapel, 23, of Hyde Park, and Jose Abreu, 30, of Roxbury, were apprehended after officers had surveilled them departing from an apartment and subsequently entering their vehicles.
The police attempted to carry out traffic stops on both suspects; however, their efforts were met with resistance. LaChapel was stopped and immediately taken into custody. Abreu chose to attempt to flee, ultimately crashing his vehicle and instigating a foot chase. Officers were able to eventually catch and detain Abreu at the location of 22 Maila Street. Abreu faced additional charges for reckless driving, failing to stop for police, and vehicle registration offenses alongside his drug charges.
LaChapel and Abreu were arraigned in West Roxbury District Court, facing multiple counts of trafficking Class A drugs. The ongoing investigation led to another operation on October 16, 2024, where officers executed search warrants at the 29 West Milton Street address. This search yielded approximately 220 grams of fentanyl and 28 grams of cocaine, along with other drug paraphernalia. As a result, the suspects were also charged with trafficking Class A and Class B drugs.
Authorities had been closely monitoring the location as part of a broader strategy to crack down on the drug trade affecting local communities. The Boston Police Department's continued efforts to curtail such activities have led to regular interceptions and disruptions of the flow of narcotics.
