Carmel's Mayor Sue Finkam launched a new financial transparency portal that provides residents with a detailed view of municipal spending. According to the City of Carmel, this portal reflects Finkam's commitment to transparency as one of her key goals for her first year in office.

Built-in collaboration with Stone Municipal Group and the city's finance department, the user-friendly system presents detailed visual breakdowns of the city's expenditures. Upon the announcement, Mayor Finkam expressed her stance, "Our residents have a right to know how their tax dollars are being spent, and the portal system makes it easier than ever to access that information," and highlighted the portal's role in empowering "citizens, businesses, and stakeholders to stay informed about the city’s financial decisions anytime, from anywhere." Yet, the residents must navigate to the Finance department's page to access the portal integrated into the City of Carmel website.

The portal emphasizes features such as general fund spending and detailed breakdowns of revenue and expenses. Designed for real-time updates, the platform ensures that users have access to the most current financial information, supplemented with historical data for deeper insights.

Making a point about the significance of the portal, CFO/Controller Zac Jackson said, "We believe the financial transparency portal will foster increased trust between the City and our residents." Embedded seamlessly on the City of Carmel website, the portal aims to be a testament to the administration's stewardship and accountability. Though the system was made to be mobile and iPad compatible, sometimes users can struggle to view details depending on their device's screen size.

In their joint effort to revolutionize public access to financial information, the City of Carmel, along with the finance department heads, Zac Jackson and Deputy CFO/Controller Ann Bingman, have paved the way for more transparent governance. This initiative, described as a 'test drive', puts Carmel on the map as a pioneer in adopting cutting-edge technology to connect the citizens with their government's fiscal policy.
