The City of Chandler is set to deck its public library branches with the festive spirit of Diwali, the Hindu festival famed as the 'Festival of Lights'. The city's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Division and Chandler Public Library are calling all to partake in four distinct Diwali celebrations, each promising a unique experience that underscores the vibrant cultural tapestry of the community. Diwali, recognized for signifying the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil, brings together people from various backgrounds to champion common values of joy, renewal, and togetherness.
First on the agenda, as a spectacle for the senses, is the Diwali Festival of Lights Celebration, pinned for Saturday, Nov. 2, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Offering an immersion into India's opulent cultural heritage, this event is sprawled out on the second floor of Downtown Chandler Library. While there, guests can drink in the kaleidoscopic dance performances and melodic tunes reflective of Diwali's essence. With an eye on the performance schedule, expect to feast on hands-on crafts in The Makery, coupled with face and henna painting activities—which, according to the city's announcement.
A more intimate gathering is mapped out for Friday, Oct. 25, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., at the Hamilton Library. The Diwali Family Festival is poised to capture the beauty of Indian culture with an assortment of dance performances, interactive audience dancing, and family crafts—a multigenerational feast for all.
Proceedings march on to the Basha Library for "Diwali - The Festival of Lights at Basha," held on Monday, Oct. 28, from 3-5:30 p.m. Tailored to families, this jovial assembly combines Diwali stories, crafts, henna art, and both music and dance sessions, as detailed by the City of Chandler.
Wrapping up the series, the Sunset Library will harbor a Diwali Family Celebration on Tuesday, Oct. 29, between 4-6 p.m. What's in store is a traditional tapestry of music, art, and crafts, polished off with a special storytime for attendees seeking a tranquil yet enriching experience. Those intrigued for more details on this year's Diwali community celebrations can reach out to Dara Gibson with the city’s DEI Division, suggestively at 480-782-2221, as per Chandler City.
