
Chicago hardware stores across the city's 16th, 19th, and 20th Districts are on high alert after a series of commercial burglaries targeting power tools, authorities have announced a warning urging local businesses to increase their vigilance.
The recent break-ins involved offenders shattering front glass doors to enter the premises and swiftly fleeing with valuable equipment. They are driving a blue Infiniti SUV, with the criminals described as two to four males donning dark clothing, face masks, and gloves. These incidents occurred in the early morning hours of October 14 and 15 at three different locations.
Specifically, the burglaries took place at the 1500 block of W. Lawrence Ave on October 14 at 5:49 a.m., followed by two break-ins on October 15 at the 3900 block of N. Lincoln Ave at 3:51 a.m. and the 4300 block of N. Central Ave at 4:17 a.m., according to the Chicago Police Department's alert.
Business owners are advised to alert neighboring shops, watch for loitering individuals who may be casing their locations and check that their surveillance systems are operational. Moreover, in case of witnessing suspicious activity or if a crime is in progress, they must not hesitate to contact 911 and provide detailed information on the perpetrators and their vehicle.
