A 22-year-old man has been charged in the shooting of a 17-year-old girl in Chicago earlier this month. Esteban Perez, of the 5400 block of W. Fullerton, was arrested on September 30 and faces a felony count of aggravated battery with a firearm, the Chicago Police Department reported.
According to the authorities, the incident took place on September 7 in the 1500 block of S. Ridgeway, located in the city's 10th District. Perez allegedly discharged a firearm, striking the teenage victim and causing serious injury. Following a combined effort by the Chicago Police and the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, Perez was placed into custody near where the alleged shooting occurred.
A detention hearing for the accused is scheduled for today, at the courthouse at 2600 S. California. As of now, the Chicago Police have not released additional information concerning this case. The community awaits further details as the legal process unfolds.
