Following a series of thefts and a robbery occurring from June to September this year, Chicago authorities have finally apprehended a suspect. According to the Chicago Police Department, 42-year-old Alberto Arias was arrested yesterday in the 2600 block of W. 24th St. Members of the Organized Retail Crime Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force identified Arias as the man linked to the series of crimes at a retail outlet on the 2500 block of W. Cermak.
The incidents include multiple felonious acts of retail theft, involving the unauthorized control of over $300 worth of merchandise, as well as a robbery. Arias now faces four felony counts of retail theft, one felony count of robbery, and another felony count for running a continuing financial crimes enterprise. The authorities have not disclosed further details about the nature of a continuing financial crimes enterprise or the alleged robbery, as stated by the Chicago Police Department.
A detention hearing is scheduled today at the courthouse located at 2600 S. California. Arias, who hails from the 2600 block of W. 24th St., will have his case reviewed there to determine the terms of detention or potential bond.
