Chicago police are currently seeking information about a series of burglaries in the 16th and 17th Districts. According to a community alert issued by the department, multiple businesses were broken into by subjects who gained entry by shattering the front glass doors or windows. The incidents, which appear to be related, involved the theft of U.S. currency from cash registers.
The burglaries all took place in the early hours of September 23, 2024, with locations on N Avondale Ave and W Irving Park Rd being hit. In an effort to quickly apprehend the suspects, authorities have released a YouTube video containing surveillance footage of the alleged perpetrators. The video depicts two male subjects wearing dark clothing and gloves, and the police are keen to finally identify these individuals.
Authorities have described the suspects' vehicles as a Gray Volkswagen Jetta and a 2023 Gray Jeep Cherokee with Illinois license plates BE59008 and DQ40340, respectively. Area Five Detectives are asking for the public’s cooperation to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could be related to these crimes. Individuals in the community are also being urged to upgrade their security measures, including the installation and maintenance of surveillance cameras.
Community members have been instructed to "be aware of this crime and alert your neighbors." The Chicago Police highlight the importance of paying special attention to any suspicious people or vehicles that might be lingering in the area. Residents are advised to "call 911 immediately" if they observe anything out of the ordinary and to provide detailed descriptions of any offenders or vehicles, including license plate information.
