A Hamilton County judge has set a bond at $1 million for a 19-year-old man charged in the fatal shooting of another teenager during an attempted robbery in Hartwell, as reported by FOX19. The suspect, Erik Evans, was taken into custody by Cincinnati police with assistance from the Fugitive Apprehension Squad after the July 20th incident.
According to court documents, Evans is facing charges of murder following the death of 19-year-old Bairon Chaj. The victim was discovered with gunshot wounds in a parking lot near the Hartwell Recreation Center, later succumbing to his injuries at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, WCPO noted in their coverage of the case.
During the initial call to the scene, which occurred around 8:46 p.m. as outlined by Cincinnati Police Lt. Jonathan Cunningham, officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 8200 block of Vine Street. It was there that they found the wounded Chaj, as Local12 detailed.
Evans, now in custody at the Hamilton County Justice Center, is scheduled for arraignment, although the particulars of his defense or his plea are not public. The severe nature of the charges reflects the gravity of an encounter gone tragically awry, and Evans stands accused of attempting to "commit aggravated robbery," according to FOX19. This action led to the untimely death of Chaj.
