On Sunday evening, a 60-year-old resident was fatally shot in what police are calling a targeted homicide. In a statement posted to their official Facebook page, Daly City Police revealed that officers were called to the 1300 block of South Mayfair Avenue around 7:10 pm following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim, a man whose name has yet to be released, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical aid, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation quickly turned toward a suspect, 21-year-old Maarij Abdullah Afridi, also a Daly City resident. The day following the tragedy, Daly City Police, together with SWAT personnel, located and arrested Afridi without further incident. Additionally, Zaib Un Nisa Afridi, identified as Maarij's 50-year-old mother, was suspected of being an accomplice in the incriminating events. The mother and son were then booked into the San Mateo County Main Jail on several felony charges, including first-degree murder.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities seek the public's collaboration. The Daly City Police Department encourages "anyone with information about this homicide to please contact the Daly City Police Department Investigations Division," as mentioned in a Facebook post.
