Smokin' Thighs restaurant in Wedgewood-Houston has announced that it will close permanently today, ending its decade-long presence in the Nashville community. In a Facebook announcement reported by WKRN, the restaurant thanked its employees and the community for their support, particularly following recent tragic events.
In recent months, the establishment experienced significant tragedy with the unexpected death of owner Matthew Carney. Carney sustained serious head trauma from a hit-and-run accident in the restaurant's parking lot. As reported by WSMV, the 42-year-old later succumbed to his injuries, and 24-year-old Ulises Martinez was arrested and charged with criminal homicide in relation to the incident.
Molly Vice, Carney's widow, expressed her sorrow and gratitude in a social media post. "Saying goodbye is hard. It’s really hard," she stated. Her full message, shared by the Nashville Scene, emphasized the community's support and the fulfillment of her late husband's dream through the restaurant. "On behalf of everyone at Smokin’ Thighs, it has been our greatest honor to serve you," Vice added.
