This morning, a fatal crash on Interstate 95 near Northwest 119th Street in Miami-Dade County closed all northbound lanes. A blue Dodge SUV driven by a woman veered off course and hit a concrete barrier. The incident caused major disruptions during the morning rush hour, with traffic being redirected onto NW 103 Street, according to WFLA News.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported that the crash occurred around 2:20 a.m. "As a result, the Dodge became disabled and came to rest blocking the roadway," said Lt. Alex Camacho in an email, according to Local 10 News.
Following the initial crash, a black Honda sedan was unable to avoid the disabled Dodge, leading to a secondary collision. This compound accident resulted in the death of the Dodge's driver at the scene and critically injured two other individuals, who were quickly transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, as Local 10 News confirmed.
While initial reports pointed to an accident involving the two vehicles, Miami Dade Fire Rescue eventually clarified that up to four vehicles may have been involved, with potentially five patients affected. The deceased woman's identity has yet to be formally released, and the status of the injured parties remains critical. Commuters were forced to seek alternative routes until the lanes reopened at approximately 6:30 a.m., as NBC Miami reported.
