On Thursday morning on Interstate 4 in Hillsborough County, authorities arrested a man wanted for murder in Georgia. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 62-year-old Edward Hunt III of Conyers, Georgia, was seen walking along the grass shoulder of the interstate, leading to his arrest.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a trooper conducting a check on Hunt near mile marker 9 discovered his identity through his driver's license. This check revealed an outstanding murder warrant from Georgia, according to WFLA. The arrest took place near the interchange with Interstate 75.
Hunt was detained at the scene while the warrant was verified, which the Florida Highway Patrol confirmed was standard procedure. Once the warrant was confirmed, he was taken into custody before 10 a.m., indicating a short interval between detainment and arrest. As reported by FOX 13 News, he was then transferred to the Orient Road Jail and handed over to detention deputies.
The Florida Highway Patrol's access to state and federal crime databases, such as the FCIC/NCIC, was crucial in identifying Hunt as a wanted individual, as noted by ABC Action News. Hunt is currently being held at the Orient Road Jail, but details about his extradition to Georgia or the circumstances of the original murder charge are still limited.
