Texas Governor Greg Abbott has made a new appointee to head the Hidalgo County Regional Mobility Authority. Robert L. Lozano, a businessman deeply ensconced in the South Texas commercial community, is to serve as the presiding officer until February 1, 2026. The Hidalgo County Regional Mobility Authority is tasked with a broad mandate, including financing, operating, and expanding transportation infrastructure within the region, as announced by the Office of the Texas Governor.
Lozano's business acumen seems to be a natural fit for the role, given his extensive experience. Logically, one can expect his leadership to span across various domains of the Authority's responsibilities. The owner and chairman of F&P Brands, Lozano also operates a network of Dairy Queen and Schlotzsky's restaurants throughout South Texas. His resume further includes holding the chairman position at the Greater State Bank and serving on multiple corporate boards, highlighting his capability to quickly diversify and broaden his scope of expertise.
The extensive experience of Lozano is complemented by his past contributions to economic development and community service. He has served as a board member for the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas San Antonio Branch, the McAllen Economic Development Corporation, and various banking institutions in the region. As the former president of the Pharr Chamber of Commerce and the Rio Grande Valley Partnership, Lozano's appointment is poised to benefit from his intimate understanding of local business landscapes and transportation needs.
Lozano's educational background, with a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas State University, underpins his professional journey. His philanthropic spirit is also notable, co-founding the Lozano Family Foundation and actively participating in the Good Samaritan Community Services. These endeavors echo his long-standing commitment to the South Texas community and put forth an implication that this new role might also be approached with a similarly compassionate perspective toward regional growth and development.
